GWDesk is a native desktop client for GroupWise. The app brings the email, calendar, tasks, notes and address book of a GroupWise account together in a single window – on the Mac and on Linux.
The app connects directly to the GroupWise server and works with the existing mailbox. Nothing needs to be installed on the server.
Features
- Create, rename and delete folders and subfolders, move messages, empty the trash
- Write, reply to and forward messages, also as an attachment
- Open and save attachments or drag them straight into the Finder
- Search the mailbox, the current folder and for messages with attachments
- Assign and manage categories with your own colors
- Signatures: your own signature in GWDesk or the GroupWise signatures stored on the server, also with images
- Tracking protection: external images are only loaded from senders you trust
Calendar
- Several calendars side by side, with day, week, month and year views
- Create and edit appointments, send invitations to people and resources
- Recurring appointments are shown as the server delivers them
Tasks, notes and phone messages
- Create and check off tasks
- Store and edit sticky notes in your own mailbox
- Read phone messages; phone numbers in messages are recognized and can be dialed directly
Address book
- Search the system address book, personal address books and frequent contacts
- Create and edit personal contacts and groups, including a contact photo
- Take recipients straight from the address book while writing
Rules and proxy access
- Create, enable and run rules, for example “Move to folder”
- Turn the vacation rule on and off
- Proxy access: open other mailboxes you are authorized for, and manage access to your own mailbox
Working offline
- The mailbox can be synchronized locally and read without a connection
- Search covers the locally stored copy
How it works
- Start GWDesk. The app finds the GroupWise server on the network or uses an address entered by hand.
- Sign in with your GroupWise account. The credentials are stored in the system keychain.
- Use the sidebar to switch between mail, calendar, tasks, notes and address book.
Download
Linux
GWDesk for Linux is available as a Flatpak for all common distributions, for example Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint, openSUSE and Fedora. There are two editions, depending on the processor:
Intel / AMD (x86_64) ARM (aarch64)
Most PCs and notebooks need the Intel/AMD edition. ARM is for devices such as the Raspberry Pi or virtual machines on a Mac with Apple silicon. The command uname -m shows which processor is installed.
1. Set up Flatpak (once, if not yet installed):
- Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint:
sudo apt install flatpak - openSUSE:
sudo zypper install flatpak - Fedora: Flatpak is already installed.
- Arch, Manjaro:
sudo pacman -S flatpak
Then add the Flathub repository, from which Flatpak loads the GNOME runtime it needs:
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
2. Install GWDesk (in the folder with the downloaded file):
flatpak install gwdesk-x86_64.flatpak
For ARM, use gwdesk-aarch64.flatpak accordingly.
3. Start: GWDesk appears in the application menu. If Flatpak was just installed, log out and back in once. Alternatively in a terminal: flatpak run de.openemotion.gwdesk
A new version is installed the same way; settings and license are kept.
macOS
The Mac version will be available on the App Store.
Requirements
- A GroupWise account and a GroupWise server reachable from the computer
- A Mac with a current macOS, or a Linux desktop (x86_64 or ARM) with Flatpak
